- Description
- This project aims to obtain an understanding of workflow processes of the Organization (an internal audit services function) to identify key problems and underlying causes. To address the identified issues, recommendations will be made to assist in improving overall audit timeliness, reduce costs and improve efficiency. The project is highly relevant due to the newly competitive environment that has been imposed on the Organization which has brought significant attention on the need to retain customers and minimize costs. Developing operations management theory, as it relates to the application of Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma philosophies in a service context, will form the theoretical foundation for this project. These philosophies will be applied to the analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data relating to workflow through analysis of audit time data and surveys of clients and in-line management to identify key issues. The sources ofmany workflow issues are supported by the project research, which were previously only anecdotally understood. Solutions are proposed to identify value-added processes, speed workflow by managing flow and pull, and improve efficiency through eliminating wasteful processes.
